CCW California Concealed Carry Weapon Course #6

Taking the CCW class will be one of the memories I cherish for the rest of my life! I wrote the above statement for two reasons. First when I took the training course, my dad and son were with me. Three generations learning and doing something together like this will be forever etched in all our minds. My dad was 88 years old at the time of the class. The sensitivity to his age and stamina exhibited by the entire FTA team was commendable. While the associates properly assisted every student in the course on the use of handling a pistol in a live fire practice, they took special care of my father to make sure he heard every instruction and could fulfill the shooting assignments. Secondly, the class was extremely informative and practical. I have been shooting guns since I was a child, and have participated in several gun safety classes. Still, I learned a lot in those two days. Bill Murphy’s teaching was excellent. He explained the laws in an understandable way, offered real-life illustrations, gave thought-provoking examples, and put a correct amount of “wholesome fear” in our minds about carrying a concealed weapon. I recommend this class to anyone who wants to consider obtaining a CCW permit.

Dear Mr. Murphy, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for teaching the "Orange County CCW" class. It was highly informative and entertaining. Your professionalism, the manner with which you shared you relevant combat experiences, and irreverent humor turned what could have been a monotonous 16-hour training course into an edifying, thought-provoking, and confidence inspiring exercise in safety, law, and basic self-defense/ combat tactics. Where the law is unclear on certain issues, you provided the appropriate objective and subjective insights from the law enforcement personnel's perspective to enable us to properly and simultaneously exercise our privilege of carrying a concealed weapon and to assert our right of self-defense. In essence- and in conjunction with covering the required materials to satisfy the sate-mandated training requirements- you communicated to us what was necessary to minimize any potential conflict, real or perceived, that might occur when we come into contact with law enforcement personnel in the performance of their duties while we are legally armed. You detailed and ingrained in us the triad of mindset, gun handling, and marksmanship. The motto of "Make me nervous and I'll hurt you; scared me and I'll kill you" is probably the most complex concept that I learned but one that is entirely apropos. The best way, after all, to avoid potentially lethal situations is to avoid confrontation but, once an assailant has chosen to target me, I should act appropriately and decisively to end the attack. I thank you for looking out for our safety- individually, but way of ensuring that we are well qualified and knowledgeable to walk the street fully aware of the benefits and repercussions of the privilege and grave responsibility of carrying concealed weapons and, collectively (along with your brother and sister officers), for keeping the peace. Sincerely, Allen

I just wanted to thank you for the CCW course you conducted this past weekend in Norco. Your knowledge, experience and presentation were among the best I have seen, period. I don’t believe many people look forward to spending 11+ hours in a classroom, but your engaging manner and ability to clearly convey the course material made for an interesting and lively session. You certainly presented me with knowledge I had never seen before, and am grateful for what I have learned with regard to the legal areas of responsibility that I had no previous association with. The range instructors were top notch also, and helped me correct a few ‘bad habits’ I had picked up over the years. As an avid competitor (as well as gunsmith) – IDPA, Steel Challenge, etc., we tend to devise methods of presentation that are more ‘game’ oriented than ‘ do it this way because it may save your life’. While it may take a while to unlearn some of the techniques I have used for years, I do understand why your instructors presented them as they did, and the reasoning behind using them. Please extend my thanks to everyone involved. While we have certification programs available locally – and I compete with some of the instructors, I will do my best to steer my friends to FTA should they desire to improve their firearms skill set. May God bless you for your service to our community and our country.

I wanted to comment on the quality of the class and training. I have been shooting since I was a kid. The training you guys provided was first class and I learned so much more that I thought I was going to learn in the last 2 days. My wife and friend will be there for the next CCW class. Mike and Bill were outstanding. I will be back for more training. I feel so lucky that this was so close to me in my back yard basically. Thanks again and we will so you soon. We are avid members there at the range and love that place and Mike and Pat. Cheers to you guys and your business.

Bill and Cheryl, I moved to Idaho about a year and a half ago. It is so nice to be away from the crowds and traffic. I wanted to say thank you to you and your staff of instructors at FTA. I've taken other courses from a number of other schools, but have to put you and your instructors at the top of the list. I recently renewed my Nevada CCW permit and took a renewal class from a Nevada certified instructor. I had also taken a basic class from the same school a few years ago to satisfy the Nevada requirements. The instructors were okay and the instruction was basic, but it really brought to the forefront how special FTA is and how much more you and your team taught me. I know I've taken a number of your classes, but the difference in quality of instruction, the facility, the competency and personal interest taken by all your staff was marked. We have talked about our time spent with FTA while we were in California and the good times and good lessons learned while there. Please let your staff know that even though we have moved, they still have an impact on our daily lives. Keep us on your mailing list. We hope to come back for more training sometime. Thanks so much, Alan.
